How Autistic Creatives Can Gain Work Experience

Attention, Autistic creatives...
who are just looking to begin their career out of college or those who have not had luck landing the job they want, read on...

For anyone, it's difficult to land the creative job you want when you have little to no experience in that field, but it's hard to get experience if no one gives you an opportunity to learn and gain the experience.

This is where the Gig Economy can come in.

How the Gig Economy Can Help...
For some creative autistic individuals the Gig Economy can be a great place to begin gaining work experience on real projects for paying clients.

This does several things for you:
  • it provides you the opportunity to begin getting work experience in the creative field you're interested in
  • the work you do in the Gig Economy can be used to begin and/or add to your growing portfolio of work samples (which are important to have in traditional job interviews)
  • you actually are getting paid for your work (you can think of it as a bit of a paid internship)
  • you gain experience and confidence managing your own work projects for clients
  • you're gaining experience as an entrepreneur; as someone with initiative who is willing to go after what s/he wants.

All of the above bullet points are invaluable to a future employer because it's proof that you have experience, a body of work to show for it (your portfolio) and that your work provides value to clients.
