44Hello. Nick Venturella, here. I founded this AutismHR project/site as a result of curiously researching the prospect of future job opportunities available for autistic job-seeking adults, as I have a young son on the autism spectrum.
According to research 1 in 44 are diagnosed with autism, and every year thousands are aging out of the education-based support they typically received in school, through high school.
Many autistic people go on to college and often pursue advanced degrees, but due to social and sensory aspect of autism traditional job interview formats do not typically bode well for qualified and talented autistic job-seekers to "sell" themselves and put their best foot forward.
As a result more than half of autistic adults are not working up to their potential because they're underemployed or worse, totally unemployed.
Organizations, however, with inclusive hiring practices are recognizing the potential of the autistic talent pool as a competitive and productivity-increasing industry advantage.
In addition, or perhaps as a starting point, AutismHR introduces creative autistic individuals to the gig economy. This helps provide creative autistic adults an opportunity to build up their skills, confidence, a portfolio of work and earn some income at the same time from freelancing their skills and passion.
